Two students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and 13 others from different tertiary institutions in Nigeria have won Campus Journalism Awards 2021 organised by Youth Digest.
The event which is reputed to be the biggest gathering of outstanding campus journalists in Nigeria took place on the 11th December at Hotel 2020, Wuye in Abuja.
Hassan Abdulsalam, an HND2 student of the department of Mass Communication, MAPOLY won the category for Sport Writer of the Year and Fasilat Oluwuyi, an HND 2 student of the same department won the category for Gender Equality Reporter of the Year.
Other awardees from their respective schools, and the categories won include: Hamzat Mariam, Feature Writer, LAUTECH; Abdulwasiu Olokooba, Editor, Uthman Danfodio University; Abdulhaleem Ishaq, Syndicated Writer, Ahmadu Bello University; Oluwatobi Odeyinka, Investigative Journalist, University of Ibadan and Oluwatosin Ologun, Best Student in Broadcasting, Adekunle Ajasin University.
Also among the awardees were Gbolahan Latinwo, News Reporter, Obafemi Awolowo University; Innocent Prince, Social Media Influencer, Federal University of Otuoke; Nwobi Valentine, Author, University of Nigeria; Muhammed Auwal, Photojournalist, Ahmadu Bello University; Sanni Omolaja, Entertainment Writer, University of Lagos and Uchenna Igwe, Upcoming Writer, University of Uyo.
The Herald Magazine, Adekunle Ajasin University won the Print Magazine of the Year with UCJ UNILORIN, University of Ilorin scooping the Pen Club of the Year.
The overall Campus Journalist of the Year award went to Abdulhaleem Ishaq Ringim from Ahmadu Bello University.
The Campus Journalism Awards, according to the organizer, Youth Digest is meant to appreciate campus journalists for their invaluable contributions to journalism and to continue to encourage them to thrive for excellence and professionalism in the media space.
