Students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic have expressed their grievances over the suspension of MAPSU election on the non-availability of Students Union Electoral Committee chairman, Lekan Adeniji.
Some students who spoke to Press Club MAPOLY alleged the final year students and some past students of Mass Communication to have initiated the alleged disruption of the election.
The students claimed the election was about to commence when some stakeholders in mass communication insisted on seeing the SULECO chairman before they can vote.
The students further explained that the insistence of the stakeholders to see the chairman, even after the intervention of the AMACOS staff adviser, Lekan Togunwa led to the suspension of the MAPSU election.
Some of the students also faulted the action of National Association of Nigerian Students/ Joint Campus Committee Chairman for supporting the decision of the stakeholders.
The students however argued that the election would have been conducted, if the stakeholders allow other team of the SULECO to conduct the election.
The students also blamed some past students of mass communication to disrupt the election due to the fear of defeat
A student of computer science identified as Arogundade Seun said, ‘mass communication finalists are the major cause of the suspension of the election.
‘Having the two presidential aspirants from mass communication department, I think they should be happy and have the hope of winning, but because of their selfish interested, they disrupted the election.
‘Even the incumbent president of mass department couldn’t play a fatherly role to both aspirants, instead he lead his team to disrupt the election’, he said.
Also Okunola olawale, a student of mass communication added, ‘only the full-time students are constitutionally allow to vote in this election, but the deputy P. R. O of mass communication department who is an evening student was present at the election ground’.
‘We are leaders of tomorrow, yet we cannot decide even when we have the opportunity, this was said by Eniola oyebade a student of business administration
She said if Mapaites are to elect new executive for the student union body it should be within the present students not the opinion of the past students of the institution.
She said, ‘I know immediately NANS chairman arrived at the election ground, something bad will happen.
‘He is only here to either rig for his candidate or ensure the election did not hold’.
One of the aspirants who pleaded annonymity claimed that the past students of this institution who see themselves as leaders are the architect of the suspension of the MAPSU election
