Following the postponement of the second semester examination by the academic board of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, students have expressed their doubts towards the examination which was slatted to start on Monday 10th December 2018.
Press Club Mapoly observed that some students had gotten to the school premises earlier to prepare for their paper after which they heard the news about the postponement.
Students were seen sitted in their classes observing their lectures as there was no trace of invigilators, examination script and sheets.
PCM further noticed that attendance of Students was low as most students had travelled at the sign that the school wasn’t going to hold it slated exams. Also, some students were seen rushing to sign their course forms and to collect exam pass.
PCM further gathered that, while few students were fully prepared for the exam many did not believe in the possibility of the exam as they ignored the time table that was pasted across department last Thursday.
While interacting with an HND 1 Mass Communication student, Popoola Samuel, he said he was not prepared for the exam.
According to him "if exams were to hold today (Monday), let me not lie to you I will write rubbish with confidence, because I didn’t open my textbook at all, not to talk of my book, nobody is ready for the exams, some have travelled home.
He also mentioned that they were told that two weeks had been added for reading and preparation towards the exams. "A lecturer in our department said two weeks was added for preparation and reading and this happens to fall on the 24th, you can’t expect people to come to Abeokuta to write exam on the eve of Christmas a lot of people will be preparing for Christmas and new year, i am sure by January exam we will start, he said."
Similarly, an HND 1 marketing student who gave his name as Yahaya, said he was not ready for the exam but if it were to start he had no choice than to write the exam.
An ND 2 Mass communication student, Michael, said there was no way the exam could hold as there was no proper planning and arrangement.
He also disclosed that, it was the same experience during second semester of last session. "This was the same issue we had last year second semester, when we were suppose to hold the exam. There is no planning and arrangement in the school, so therefore it cannot hold.
We don’t even have exam pass for the exam, we just submitted our school receipt for confirmation last Friday, he said."
While others were not ready for the exam, an ND 2 SLT student, Bashiru Oluwalonimi, said that she was prepared for the exam but noted that the hearsay going round that the exam would not hold today (Monday) discouraged her from doing intensive reading.
According to her, "If exams were to start i would sit for it because I have been preparing for the exams by treating past questions and i have been reading but since people have started saying the exam would not hold this discouraged me from doing intensive reading."
In view of that, students has been reacting and giving opinion concerning the examination.
According to the interview that was conducted with the students, it was learnt that majority of them were not ready for the exam while a few of them were ready for it.
Afolabi Olatorewa an ND2 mass communication student in her opinion said she wasn’t ready for the exam but if it were to hold today (Monday), she would still be able to write something down because it is an exam and must be done
Meanwhile, an HND 1 marketing student, komolafe Temitope said she was ready for the exam if it were to hold today (Monday) but doubt if the exam would still hold this year.
On the contrary, Tajudeen Nurudeen an HND 1 office technology student said he wasn’t ready for the exam because he hasn’t collected his exam pass and hasn’t completed his registration.
According to him, he was sure that the exam wouldn’t hold today because of the absence of their H.O.D’s signature on the released timetable for their department
However, the academic board of Mapoly in a release sent to PCM said the second semester exams was postponed due to logistics reason.
