The President of the National Association of Nigerian Campus Editor’s (NANCE ), Mr Jonathan Oladimeji has extolled Moshood Abiola Polytechnic as the best institution for Journalism in Nigeria.
He made this submission during his visit to Press Club MAPOLY weekly meeting on Thursday, 10 July, 2019, where he announced moves to organise a national campus editors summit in the polytechnic.
He said that MAPOLY has produced notable Journalists in the field and thus the body would be privileged to hold its summit in the institution.
National Association of Nigerian Campus Editor’s (NANCE) is the apex body for all Campus editors across all tertiary institutions in Nigeria that organizes programmes to improve its member’s journalistic skills and help them in securing internship.
Oladimeji, revealed that Press Club MAPOLY will play host to several institutions campus editors during the NANCE Summit coming up in July or August this year adding that MAPOLY was chosen because of its achievements in Journalism.
According to him "the first ever NANCE programme to be hosted in a polytechnic was last year as Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa where I had my National Diploma. Then I was serving as the general secretary of NANCE but during my ND days I always had Mapoly in mind maybe it was because of some of those things I have read about Mapoly’s Press. When you talk about journalism in Nigeria you cannot overlook the fact that Mapoly is the mother of schools in Journalism some may disagree, I am not a student of Mapoly but I know some of those lecturers, I know Dr Goke Raufu, Mr Jonathan Olajide, Late Babs Bello, Prof. Bidemi Osunbiyi. I have read a lot about press in MAPOLY.’’
He added that the summit would avail campus journalists to network and learn from expert, ‘’NANCE will be making professional writers, editors, gurus available at the summit to help campus journalist familiarise themselves with what is obtainable on the field. It will be avenue to network and learn, we wiil be going for facility visit to media houses in Abeokuta, he said.’’
Oladimeji, however appealed to Press Club Mapoly members to come out en masse for the summit and assist in securing accommodation for participants coming from far and near.
Meanwhile,the NANCE summit which was earlier proposed to hold in May was postponed due to the unfortunate crises that rocked the institution.
