The Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Samson Odedina has disclosed that the Polytechnic’s radio station will in no time start operation as plans are in place to commence within the next four weeks.
Odedinastated this at the sideline of the 2018/2019 Matriculation Ceremony held at Otunba Gbenga Daniel Hall for both full time and part time students.
The Rector said the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has granted license approval for the take-off of the radio station with the frequency 99.7fm.
Odedina noted that the management has also set up a committee to come up with modalities at ensuring smooth take off of the radio within four weeks.
"That is imminent, and I can tell you that, we have a license and the equipment are already secured and we have a committee that has been given 4weeks to come up with modalities for bringing MAPOLY radio on air.”
He added that additional plans are underway by the management to offer agricultural science and fishery courses as from the 2019/2020 academic session.
Odedina stressed that as part of the new Polytechnic Act, the institution is at liberty to graduate high-level manpower, as the polytechnic is at the verge of becoming a degree awarding institution.
“We’re sitting on more than 9,000 hectares of land and as at present, we’re not running any agricultural program. We are keying into government policies of agro-based job opportunities.I can tell you that in the next 6months, we’ll be inviting NBTE to inspect our facilities for agricultural technology and fisheries, that’s where we’re starting from and then we move to agriculture engineering. It’s a sure way to go for us.
“And if you look at the new polytechnic Act, Polytechnics are not meant to graduate middlemen manpower again, we’re now at the liberty to be at per with the University to graduate high level manpower and I can tell you, MAPOLY we’re at the verge of becoming a degree awarding institution.”he said
Odedina noted that MAPOLY is a reference point in the entrepreneurial, scientific and technological industry, adding that the institution’s graduates have over the years proven to be job creators, role models and not job seekers.
However, He said that the school stood out from its contemporaries in terms of programmes accreditation, saying the institution could favourably compete with others and come out as champions.
