Business owners in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, have lamented the lack of access to business activities in the school due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The business owners who are surviving through their various businesses in MAPOLY school market lamented how the lockdown has caused nothing but financial setback for them.
They express concern over the negative impact of the COVID-19 lockdown which had disrupted their business activities.
Speaking during an interview with Press Club Mapoly(PCM) reporter, one of the business owners, Mr Vincent SonJay who specialises in printing and photocopy lamented how the lockdown has caused great setback to his livelihood.
"It has not been easy since I am a project writer, from the lockdown am only doing the works I have collected before the lockdown at home.
"Am not sure there is hope
unless if the lockdown is over and the school is reopened.Basically we are all surviving right now on the little we have saved."
Mr. Vincent however, disclosed his works are been sent via email to his customers amidst Coronavirus lockdown.
He urged the management to allow project supervisors attend to their students so as to benefit the students and ease the business challenge in the school market.
"I’m not sure there is hope
unless if the lock is over and the school is reopened."
"The school cannot resume now but if the management can allow the final year students to submit there project to their supervisors online that will be better.
"It will create a new job for me.Not like now that everything is stand still because supervisor are not attending to students.
"The lockdown is really affecting me a lot, am only feeding on the little I have saved before the lockdown and if that is exhausted that is hunger God help us."
A food trader in the school market, Mrs Temitayo Adebayo also lamented the effect of the lockdown on her business.
Mrs Adebayo told PCM that most of the foodstuff she bought before the lockdown to sell to students is getting spoilt while others have also expired.
"All the foods we bought so that we will sell for students are now getting spoilt, most of them are getting expired.
" Most of these goods were purchased on loan and we have to meet up with the deadline date or we face a problem."
Mrs. Adebayo appealed to the Ogun state government to lift the ban on schools so that MAPOLY students will resume and everything will get back to normal.
Also,Damilola Sholola, another business owner in the school stated that the lockdown has denied him a lot of opportunities that he was getting before the school shut down due to the government’s directives.
"There are lots of new intakes who just got admitted into the school and want to make online registration but they couldn’t come to me.
"This is what we depend on, we can’t feed our family without going to work, the government should just consider we small scale business owners and let school reopen so that things can go well."
