A student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Kafilat Taiwo has bagged an award at the 2020 Campus Journalism award organised by Youth Digest while two others, Hassan Abdulsalam and Sodiq Ojuroungbe emerged as runner up.
The award held in Abuja on Saturday at Nicon Luxury Hotel Abuja saw outstanding campus journalists from various institution winning awards in different categories which Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) was selected among.
Out of the 266 entries received, three students of MAPOLY all Mass Communication Students, Kafilat Taiwo, Hassan Abdulsalam and Sodiq Ojuroungbe were among the 30 outstanding campus journalists shortlisted as finalist for the award.
Kafilat, an HND1 student of the Polytechnic who is the Vice President of the National Association of Nigerian Campus Journalist(NUCJ) won award in the gender equality category for her report ” Inside Ogun communities where traders cover foods with insecticide treated Nets“
She won award alongside other 14 winners from different institution.
Also, Hassan Abdulsalam who is the NUCJ Southwest Coordinator was a runner up in the Sports category while former editor of Press Club MAPOLY, Sodiq Ojuroungbe was a runner for the Investigative category.
Other award winners includes; Muhammad Dhairu Lawal; overall winner Campus Journalist award; Uthman Samad, Investigative Journalist;Jamiu Abiodun, Feature Writer of the Year; Ikulajolu Adesola; Editor of the year;Ileyemi Mariam; Photojournalist of the year;the News Digest Press; Pen Club of the year; Abdulhakeem Ishaq; Syndicated Writer of the year;Muhammad Yakub;Upcoming Writer;Udeobasi Blessing; News Reporter of the year; Yusuf Mutiu, Sport Writer amongst others.
