In the bid to fight indecent dressing in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, two religious institutions have aired their views about the indiscipline act.
The religious institutions: the Joint Campus Christian Fellowship (JCCF) and the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) said the improper act must be curbed in the society.
In a letter, JCCF President, Idowu John Favour said that indecent mode of dressing contradicts the African value, explaining such is why the society deems it a sickness to be cured.
Favour also lamented the rate at which indecent dressing has infiltrated into the moral fiber and academic progression of students.
He added that students have embraced it as a custom as they do not see anything wrong in dressing seductively.
"In the name of fashion, ladies dress half-naked. They derive pleasure in wearing mini skirts, bumper shorts and armless tops. Guys, on the other hand, have been seen fixing nails, piercing the ears and sagging, making them look like hardened criminals.
"To reduce the ugly scenario, parents, lecturers – both teaching and non-teaching staff – are advised to be good moral examples to the society at large.
"Also, the Mass Media must promote good moral values while religious leaders must preach against it regularly, Counsel and deliver those under demonic influences if there is need for it.
"Though, the introduction and enforcement of dress codes with severe punishment for violaters can also help," he said.
Similarly, the Muslim group registered its objection to indecent dressing, stressing that it will require a collective approach for it to be curbed.
The Amir of the group, Aminu Abdulwasiu said authorities within and outside the school campus must come together to fight indecency.
"Curbing indecent dressing is not what can just be curb on campus, it should be collective. Probably with the support of all other organizations, the society and the management. All efforts must be put together. This won’t make it look as though students are trying to correct their fellow students.
"When the authority enforces the penalty for anyone who dresses indecently, then we would be able to curb it.
"The way MSSN is trying to curb indecent dressing is that, we have set aside lectures and programmes for moral training for both the old timers and new comers in terms of morality and decent dressing," the Amir said.
