With barely four days to go before the students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic get their long-awaited Students Union Government officials on board, here are five interesting facts Press Club MAPOLY has dug up about the coming election:
It will be the first election in the school to be conducted via an electoral college system
An electoral college is way different from the conventional popular vote where the general public is allowed to vote. In an electoral college, there are sets of electors who are selected to elect candidates to particular offices. Ideally, these electors are chosen from all units that make up the entity, given equal representation to all. In the case of MAPOLY, they are called delegates, and two have been chosen from every school in the institution.
Presidency is coming from Marketing and Computer Science
Going by the screened candidates ahead of the election, we have Jolayemi Michael of Marketing vying for the office of the President and Babatunde AbdGaniu Abiola of Computer Science gunning for the same post. Both are to go head-to-head come election day for the crown of the SUG.
There are six offices up for grab
In line with the screening statistics, we have six offices up for filling: Presidency, Public Relations, Welfare, Financial Secretary, General Secretary and Treasurer.
Three offices are the keenly contested ones
The offices that will be keenly contested for going by screening statistics are that of the Presidency, Public Relations and Welfare.
There are only two female aspirants
We have two female aspirants contesting in the coming election. One is Aderani Oluwafunmilayo of Pharmaceutical Technology and the other is Adeleke Bukola Blessing of Business Administration. Though Blessing was absent from the screening held on Friday.
