Carry Over by Quadri Yahya

How do you carry over your pains/failures
Though you are longing and optimistic for the time
To cover them up?

How do you, like
Peer into that paper again and again
As you stand still, at the entrance to the exam hall?

You’re such a brave boy
You’re such a brave girl

Dismissing the suicidal thoughts
For a whole, whole long year.
And you still come here, at the entrance to the exam hall
In your unkempt hair, rough clothes, broken shoes.

You felt betrayed by books
You felt betrayed by not bribing
The old crook clinking bottles with Big Boys.
