Made happen by Press Club MAPOLY, my visit to Splash FM 106.7 Abeokuta was a memorable and exciting experience.
First, I was a bit anxious and nervous as to what to expect from the visit but to my utmost surprise, I was enthralled by the warmth reception of the security personnel as they ushered me into the reception.
As if that was not enough, on getting to the reception, the receptionist was also beaming with a smile on seeing me. She said to me with the enchanting smile, “Kindly make yourself comfortable.” On hearing that, I felt very much comfortable and excited to be among them.
Aside from the warmth reception I received, the atmosphere was incredible, serene and comfortable. I felt I was in another world entirely and I said to myself immediately, “I will make sure I put in all my best in my academics so I can be here or somewhere better in future.”
Visiting Splash FM opened my eyes to lots of things about my profession. It made me see the beauty and prestige inherent in my profession. I got this feeling of familiarity with the practical world of reality.
Another thing that caught my attention during the visit was the level of coordination amongst staff in the newsroom, everyone was busy with work, while some are on the laptop, some are busy reviewing newspapers pages, some writing and the like. Seeing that also stimulated my desire and passion for Mass Communication as a profession.
I must really confess, I was fascinated by the surroundings, the atmosphere and the staff of Splash FM, and I must say that I really can’t wait to start working in a radio station as a media person.
To wrap it up, media tour is relevant for Mass Communication students as it helps in stimulating their desire and passion for the profession. It opens their eyes to see the beauty of their profession thereby making them put in all their best in becoming a professional media person in future.
In addition, emphasis should be placed on media tours for Mass Communication students to make them familiarize themselves with the practical world of reality. By going on a visit to media houses, it gives them an insight to what to expect when they secure employment in the future.
