The Acting Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji on Monday disclosed reasons students driving cars with tinted glass have not been allowed to drive on campus.
He stated that beside reckless driving shown by student-drivers, tinted glass cars could aid kidnapping.
The Ag. Rector revealed that there was once an attempted kidnap on campus but it was voided.
He said, “I will tell you bluntly. There was an attempted kidnap on this campus but it was voided.”
He noted that students that fall under this condition now park their cars outside the school gate, stating that such is an act of rebellion and will be addressed soon.
“We never instructed any students to park outside. Those that do park outside are on their own. And I do say it that parking outside the gate is a sign of rebellion. That will be addressed very soon,” he said.
He also pointed out that some of these students-drivers have no driver’s license that makes for eligibility as a driver.
Dr. Odedeji made it known that since MAPOLY had made the regulation, some other schools have followed suit.
”Some of these student-drivers do not have driver’s license and even some of them do not have their papers in order. And you know it is a criminal offence to be driving a car without driver’s license and you knockdown somebody and the person dies; it is not manslaughter, it is a murder case.
“Let me tell you that it was from this place that UNILAG learned and they started enforcing it. In Federal Polytechnic, Gida it outright non-bringing of cars to the campus by students. Why? Because there have been students driving recklessly. And it was reported that three or four students were knocked down by these student-drivers with their cars,” he said.
The Ag. Rector, however, warned students who may want to buy cars to not buy the tinted ones.
His words, “So if you are a student and you want to go and buy a car, remember that there is a law that no students should bring a tinted car to the campus. There’s no going back as far as tinted cars regulation is concerned.”
