The Acting Rector, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji has advised students to shun cultism and other social vices on campus.
Odedeji, in his speech, during the 2020/2021 Matriculation ceremony admonished the students to be good ambassadors of the institution and their family names.
He said, "You must show unreserved hatred for cultism and other social vices that can drag the name of the institution and that of your parents into the mud. Mind the way you dress as the institution does not tolerate indecent dressing.
"The responsibility to graduate in flying colors is now on you. I urge you to desire and be good ambassadors. As fresh students,you should be mindful of who you associate with, association or society you join while on campus.
"While I want to implore you to take advantage of our academic staff that have been equipped to teach and mentor you in your chosen careers, I admonish you to be challenged in your thinking to have your ideas questioned, made to consider and welcome superior arguments as well as accept criticisms, which will allow you to be ranked unique among your peers within and outside the Polytechnic." he said
He added that students will benefit from professional bodies to furnish their career.
"Your decision to study in this institution gives you the professional edge to succeed and make a success of your chosen career. As you may be aware that MAPOLY enjoys good relationship with professional bodies like ICAN, APCON, NIPR, NIFST, etc. and this fellowship gives our students preference and edge in various professional examinations." Odedeji said
Meanwhile, he celebrated former Press Club MAPOLY Editor, Fasilat Oluwuyi and Computer Science students who put the image of the institution in the limelight.
According to him, "I must emphasize that the Polytechnic is a reference point in entrepreneurial, scientific and technological education, which makes our students excel in different areas of their fields, giving hopes and strength to our State and Nation at large.
"Recently, our students; Adebiyi Samod, Akindipe Odunola, Adeshile Oluwaseyi, Adeniji Quadri, and Adebayo Michael Mayowa, from the department of Computer Science emerged first position in Software Development at the Information Technology Development contest recently held at Crescent University, Abeokuta; same Adebayo Michael was also appointed as the Google Developer Students Club Lead.
"Similarly, Fasilat Oluwuyi was recently nominated as the finalist in the category of Fact-Check of the Year by the Africas Investigative Journalism Conference. These are attestations to the quality of academic we expose our students to, having beamed our searchlight into technological, vocational and cybernetic frontiers."
