The society has become polluted and heinous to the extent that the rate at which the generation of today, most especially the youth crave for luxury, wealth and material possession is quite frightening that it makes those struggling to make ends meet wonder if they ware unfortunate or not cut-out for success in life.
The truth is, the society has become polluted to the extent that no one actually cares about how you earn a living or how you make it in life. All they are concerned about is "if you don make am" and this often pushes students, who make up the bulk of the youth population, to the extreme to do what they are not supposed to do just to prove to the world that they have arrived.
Cyber crime and ritual killings are now rampant among youths today. You see them ride exotic cars, build mansions, engage in frivolities as well as spend lavishly on girls.
The quick-wealth syndrome has now become the order of the day among youths in the society as money has now become alcohol, intoxicating the youths without control in the society.
You see an 18-year-old student riding an expensive cars his father can’t afford and the society keeps quiet about it; no one challenges them about the source.
Like the maxim that states: "The love of money is the root of all evil". The statement is evident as the love of money has eaten deep into the fabrics of the society, virtually everyone now worships money as god.
The youth have now become so callous, ruthless and inhumane all in the name of wealth. Human life means absolutely nothing to them again.
It is so disheartening today to see how people still make unbelievable sacrifices over the vainest of things for material possessions.
The major cause of the loss of moral decadence and social vices in the country is the lack of contentment among the youth of today. They want to get rich by all means.
The question is why won’t cyber crime and ritual killings be on the increase when the government, parents, religious leaders and school authorities have failed in their responsibilities?
Parenting and child upbringing has lost its value in today’s society. Parents have failed to instill discipline, moral uprightness and the fear of God in their children. Some parents are so preoccupied with work to the extent that they don’t even have time for their children or know the kinds of friends their children keep, not to talk of knowing what their child is capable of.
Out of negligence and nonchalant attitude of parents, some youths are involved in heinous crimes like drug abuse,rape,cultism,ritual killings, kidnapping without the knowledge of their parents. While some parents are aware,they give a strong backing to them.
The government also shares blames. First,for failing to put in place measures to assist the growing ones to be financially independent. It is very difficult for a low-class individual to make ends meet these days, hence; you see people so desperate for money and as such, can go any length to get money.
Whereas the government are decorated with provoking allowances that could do a society allowances.
This is an eye-opener to the government not to lose guard when it comes to security issues, hold and maintain high standard of justice and equality irrespective of who they are or the position they are holding.
Parents, on the other divide, need to train and monitor their children properly, give them moral and spiritual education, and most importantly, teach them to be contented with what they have. It is what they are being taught they grow up to exhibit while in the home or in school, making good ambassadors wherever they go to.
