The poor state of facilities in the department of Mass Communication calls for an urgent attention from the management as the infrastructure are gradually becoming dilapidated and menacing. These facilities, one way or the other, affect the students, causing inconvenience to them in varying degrees.
The first notable problem is the unhygeinic state of the toilets facilities in the department. The toilets are always dirty and messed up due to the lack of water supply, and this often poses a challenge to students who nature will inevitably call for relieve.
Attention of the management also need be drawn towards the dilapidated roof in ND1 lecture hall. The roof is in bad shape and it equally poses dangers to students. It is likely to fall off at any time considering how limp it hangs over the heads of students in the hall – and this is a serious threat to the lives and health of students.
It is also worth noting the irregular power supply in the school. The lecture halls are always congested and there is usually no ventilation, making habitation a struggle. The population of the students in a class is outsized. In such situation, adequate ventilation is needed to ensure that habitation in such space comes with less risk. But the reverse is the case as the fans and air conditioning are always inoperative owing to the lack of electricity.
Similarly, the furniture in most of the lecture rooms like chairs, fans and air conditioning are bad and not in good shape. Most of the time, students have to stand while receiving lectures which is not supposed to be.
All of these put together have a detrimental effect on the academic performance of students in school, not to talk about their health.
Therefore, it is imperative the school authority look into these situations and possibly make amends to make learning conducive for the students, and to lookout for their wellbeing while in school.
