Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Acting Rector, Dr.Adeoye Odedeji has appealed to the State government to support the school as some programes need accreditation.
Dr.Odedeji, made this known during the celebration of international day of colour and 2022 art exhibition organized by Art and Industrial Design department, held in the school premises on Monday.
He also stated that the deadline has been fixed by National Board for Technical Education, NBTE to accreditate those programes, as failure to meet up with the deadline will make those programmes suspended .
He said, "We appeal to the state government for support because, deadline has been given to all polytechnics, that by august 2022,all programes that has expired would be suspended from being run in the Polytechnic, we are appealing that the government should provide support for the Polytechnic, particularly in the area of undertaking full accreditation of some programmes and new accreditation of expired ones".
However, the state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Toyin Taiwo, encouraged the students to continue practicing their skills as there are opportunities for them if they are serious.
The commissioner who was represented by, Samuel Olubukola, who works with the ministry of Culture and Tourism, said the ministry is ready to grant platform and opportunity for upcoming artists who have the skill.
She said, " we have a gallery right now that we’re building, the essence of the gallery is to have students and upcoming artists that have talent, they need a platform to exhibit their work, so that they can easily sell them. People can get to see them in cultural center as governors come there for events everyday. They can buy and as well commission you to do somethings in the future."
The school Public Relation’s Officer, Yemi Ajibola, maintained that the art exhibition was organized to showcase students’ talent and as well have the opportunity to sell their works.
He said, "The objective of this programme is to showcase the students talent, to showcase the activities of the department, and to display the creative intelligents of our youths, their arts are being tagged with price, many would buy from them and it serves as a means of showcasing our students dexterity."
The Acting Rector, however, appreciated the state government’s efforts for providing financial support to make the International Day of color a dream come true.
He therefore appreciated the students as he said " I am hopeful of a bright future of the polytechnic, it will be very bright, in spite of all the challenges facing the school, it clearly shows that the students are on the same page with the management and staff of the polytechnic, I am very happy with the impression the student are creating with their efforts and commitment in ensuring that today comes to pass and it has been very glorious."
