Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has advised young entrepreneurs to be hardworking and never relent in the face of the frustrating economy.
The former President made this known at the Youth Development Centre of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library ,YDCOOPL conference and Credit Scheme held in Abeokuta.
Obasanjo while addressing the young entrepreneurs,spoke on the reason behind the initiative of the scheme which is to provide credit facilities to young entrepreneurs to enable them survive the economy situation of the country.
He said,"many of them do not need millions but a few thousands of naira to start up something.
He therefore, presented cheques of over N1 million naira to beneficiaries of the credit scheme for start up capital.
Meanwhile,the Director of Youth Development, OOPL,Ibukun Olagbemiro said the project was to provide credit facilities to young business owners with the support of the former President under the guidance of the sub committee chaired by Dr Bisi Kolapo.
He added that the first beneficiaries were drawn from those who have been trained by the Centre for Business Enterprise training of the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN)
"From the survey we have carried out from the group,54% showed interest and after series of interviews ,we have them reduced to 26 and from 26 to 11 of the beneficiaries of today" he said.
He, however,encouraged the youths to embrace technology as it is the future.
Also speaking at the occassion was the Commissioner for Education,Science and Technology represented by the permanent secretary, Mr Ogunmola Sunkanmi
who encouraged the youth to prepare themselves ahead for the future of work.
Similarly,one of the discussants mr jossy Ayedun emphasised on the importance of technology in all aspects of life and how the youths can transit from non tech to tech careers.
In the same vein, mrs Edith Nwankwo advised the youth to continue to upskill and upgrade themselves with the necessary technological skills applicable in todays society in order to remain relevant.
