The students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta have been urged to implement the experience gained during their Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme.
Dr. Kolawole Amos, the director of SIWES advised the students of Mass Communication on the importance of the 3 months of pragmatic training to their profession.
He said this during the SIWES defense seminar organized by the school to enable the student to display what they had learned so far while on the field.
He explained that the program provides the students with an opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-life situations, thereby bridging the gap between college work and actual practice.
He noted that it is a training that is mandatory in all Polytechnic, colleges of education, and various universities.
He said, "the purpose of this training is to equip would-be journalists by exposing them to the journalism world and also learn how to operate various equipment in radio and television stations.
He, therefore, encouraged those that truly participated in the training that they should keep striving for the best, and as for those who didn’t do it, the repercussions would come upon them.
Furthermore, the Head of the Department, Mr. Lekan Togunwa, who spoke on the essence of the training, said, "SIWES aims to make the transition from school to the world of work easier and to train the students for job placement".
Present at the seminar was the SIWES coordinator, Mrs. Adeyemi, Mr. Femi Orunsola, Mr. Semiu Kazeem, Mr. Adefo Lekan, and Dr. Goke Rauf.
