Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Alumni set 1992 of Mass Communication department, has donated studio equipment to refurbish the institution’s television studio.
The Alumni, on Friday, gathered at the school Studio to celebrate their 30th anniversary of graduation, stating that they are giving back to the school.
Mr. Kunle Adeshina, the Chairman, Association of Mass Communication Graduates (AMACOG) 1992 set, while speaking said that the association spent ₦5 million on refurbishing the studio.
Some equipment bought for the studio are; cameras, tripod, teleprompter, mixer, tables, Production Control Center(PCR), and microphones.
According to Adeshina, who emphasized that the need for old students to play active roles in developing their alma mater is essential.
He, therefore, added that the alumni association would also provide training on how to operate and manage the equipment in the new studio.
“We have accomplished a set of gentlemen and ladies who have made their marks in various fields of endeavors after graduating from this department.
“We have them in the media world as CEOs, publishers, editors, and line editors of national dailies," he said, stating that students of the department would henceforth enjoy the benefit of being trained with some of the best and latest high-tech equipment that was obtainable in distant locations.
“We realized that the highest concentration of students who applied to the department is for broadcast.
“We now felt if we want to be impactful in terms of touching the department, the school, and the public at large, we should do something about the television studio.
“Among us, we have people who own television, and radio stations, we leverage their expertise and today we are putting in place a new look television studio with up-to-date equipment for the department.
“We worked on the ambiance of the studio itself, the stage, the set, some of the best you can get in any wave-making television station is right here at MAPOLY,” he said.
The Head Of Department, Mass Communication, Dr. Lekan Togunwa, expressed his excitement towards the development stating how it would contribute to the greatness of the department and school.
Commending the alumni, he said," They have brought the latest equipment to improve our students".
He said, "Naturally I feel elated, I am excited about this day. When you have people that left this department 30 years ago, they graduated 30 years and decided to come back to contribute to the development of the department, It is a good attempt, so I am happy."
"The AMACOG 1992 set has brought the latest equipment to improve our students, they have furnished the studio with cameras, mixer and another gadget. This will enhance the value of what we have to expose our students to the practical aspect of what we teach.
"So it means our students will be relating with Modern equipment they’re likely to meet outside so this will add value and quality to our teaching and practical."
In the same vein, he said students in Mass Communication would be an opportunity to undergo their Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme,SIWES at the TV station for a better understanding of their course.
" Though we can’t take every student we would encourage our students to come here," he said.
The Acting Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji, expressed gratitude, as he commended the association for the kind gesture and for remembering to give back to their alma mater.
He stated that the handing over of the refurbished television studio was timely, stating that the institution would be expecting officials from National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for accreditation in a few weeks.
