The Chief Security Officer of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Adekoya Adekunle, has reacted to the complaint of students about how the security men harass, extort, and promote indecent dressings among students on campus.
The CSO, in an interview with Press Club MAPOLY, has debunked the claims students have made against the security personnel on campus, stating that students have made false claims.
Adekunle said, "We have a dress code in MAPOLY, which every student must follow, we have for men and women, for women, you are not allowed to wear clothes that expose your body, as a lady on campus, and men too, issue of dreadlock, tinted hair are not allowed".
"But nowadays, especially those that just came into the campus, you would see dreadlock, tinted hair, indecent dressing, we are trying our best, and anybody that passes through the gate and you are caught, we normally ask them to go home and change."
"Those who are lucky to escape from the gate, are the ones you see in school, maybe they are in the school bus, you know it’s not easy for us to easily fish them out when the school bus is passing through the gate." He stated.
Speaking on how to fish out students who have sneaked in, he urged lecturers to send them home, whenever they are sighted in the class.
The CSO further explained that the security men have never collected money from students, as he advised the students to report any form of bribery and corruption.
However, he said, "the issue of bribery and corruption, if you are a giver, you are an offender, and if you are the receiver, you are also an offender."
Adekunle, who has been MAPOLY CSO for over nine years, said the school has been peaceful throughout the years while stating how he is trying to maintain the peace.
He said, "I have been the Chief Security Officer of MAPOLY for over nine years, since 2013, we are trying our best to keep the campus safe and for the past nine years, the campus has been peaceful, even though the town is boiling, cult clash and killings, this is to assure you that we are on top of the situation".
"We are employed to look after you, not to torment you, we are trying to create a student-friendly security department, that means, we have to be civil, the fact that we are security officers does not mean we start beating students on campus, we are not allowed to do so, we have to be civil in our dealings with students, and some of these students have one form of health challenges or the other that we don’t know, and if we touch that kind of person and something else happens, we are in trouble, so we have to be careful in dealing with them." He said.
He, therefore, implored students to go home immediately after the examination as he emphasized that no student should engage In the celebration of signing out in the school.
He said, "this examination is the end of this session and it is very important we take It seriously, we plan to make the campus safe and conducive for the conduct of the examination."
"After the exam, everybody should go home, we don’t want to see any student doing any logout or writing on one another’s cloth, if such students are caught, they would face the penalty, so write your exam and go home." He maintained.
He also advised students to keep their information private, as he said it is dangerous to reveal everything on social media.
