The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, under the aegis of Comrade Damilola Simeon Kehinde, has declared that the association is not backing down in its earlier decision to stage a protest tomorrow, Monday, 17 2022.
The association stated this in a statement that was released on Sunday, hours after the management announced a reduction in the registration fees.
Meanwhile, NANS has maintained that the agitations and struggle are not about the registration fee alone but also to bring to status quo, the 60_40 mode of payment as promised among others.
It reads, "suffice to however say, that this struggle isn’t about the unjustifiable registration fee alone but the encapsulation of the countless struggles, pains, sufferings and dehumanizing experiences of our dear MAPOLY students.
We have enough press statements and news stories published to substantiate this fact.
"Among other things, the management must remove the unlawful and indefensible Registration fee, reintroduce the 60-40 payment option as promised, fix a date the for next Students Union election, improve the student’s overall well, fare and give room for social activities on campus.
The above are non-negotiable from over 20 demands".
"Any further attempt to frustrate, denigrate or downplay our collective struggle shall be stiffly resisted. As Nigerian Students, we are ready to drag the Rector to higher authorities even as he is currently being investigated by the Anti-fraud unit of Nigeria Police Force."
"As we conclude plans for the peaceful demonstration, we urge well-meaningness MAPOLY students to join us in this titanic struggle against the oppressors."
