Online new platform, Naij has apologise to the management and students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic over ‘notorious’ publication on the institution.
The Content Editor of the medium, Temitope Popoola made this apology at the 2017 Campus Editors’ Summit attended by students of the institution under the aegis of Press Club MAPOLY.
It would be recalled that the medium labelled MAPOLY as the most notorious tertiary institution in Africa, Nigerian children must never attend. The report also listed Houdegbe North American University, Benin Republic; Lagos State University, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology and two other institutions home ground of notoriety.
President, Press Club MAPOLY, Ifedayo Ogunyemi had challenged the medium’s representative at the summit on the basis of the study cited in the report and what measures devised to eradicate ‘fakery’ in reports by the medium.
The association Assistant General Secretary, Olamide Odutolu also asked the medium to provide statistics of the ‘recent study’ on which the said publication was written.
Popoola however claimed that the writer of the publication, Soonest Nathaniel is a senior editor in the medium.
She also claimed he must have carried out his research before publishing the said article.
“The person who wrote the story is a senior editor and he must have carried out adequate research probably, he must have spoken to some students on the campus.
“Anyway I apologise to you, we are very sorry.”
The Content Editor however envisaged that the writer must have quoted some authorities but she was immediately countered by the Public Relations Executive, Ahmad Obanoyen saying that “there was no attribution” in the publication.
Popoola was a guest at the event organised by the National Association of Nigerian Campus Editors’ (NANCE).
It would be recalled that the polytechnic management in a press release issued by the Public Relations Executive, Sulaimon Adebiyi said that the institution is not a breeding ground for notoriety.
