HND I students, AMACOS President bicker over semester registration

• The Department has moved to settle all result issues – Ayodele

HND I students of the department of Mass Communication have expressed their displeasure over the remarks by the department association President, Moses Ayodele urging them to complete their registration on time.
Ayodele who had acted on a directive by the SCIT School Officer, Mrs Solanke however received ‘unpleasant’ response from the students in their class on Friday.
According to the President, more than 50 per cent of the students have not completed their registration for the semester.
The students however said they are yet to collect their ND results which form part of requirements for the registration. Some of them said the results are being delayed at the academics. They also claimed he has neglected their plights
They said majority of the students of the class are facing different challenges which are said to be unknown to the president.
It took the efforts of a lecturer of the department, Dr. Funmi Alakija to restore normalcy to the class, as the students insisted they do not want to listen to him again.
One of the students who pleaded anonymity accused the President of not paying attention to issues affecting the students of the department.
The student further told CAMPUS PRESS that she is facing challenges in getting her ND result since last year, even after which she had been admitted for the HND full time programme. “What is our President doing about it?” she queried.
Also a student told CAMPUS PRESS said, “as the president, I expected him to be the leader of the students and know the situation of things in the department.
“How would our president tell us to finish registrations today, when most of us are having issues of result which has rendered us handicapped.
“Most of us have the school fees with us, but we are unable to sign our clearance forms due to the issues on ground, how does our president expect us to finish the registration?
“Instead of him to facilitate the quick release of our results among other issues, he was coming to class to preach the gospel of the management to us”, he said.
When contacted, Ayodele said the Head of the department, Kolawole Amos has assured him that the issues on the results are being handled.
Ayodele also said he was not aware of such complaints until the students raised them in their class today. He said none of such complaints have been sent to his office.
He also said he had acted on the instruction of the school officer that majority of the HND I students have not completed their registration for the semester.
“I went to their class because the school officer called my attention to the fact that more than 50 per cent of the class have not done their clearance.
“When I was through with that….some of them were grumbling. Dr Alakija (who was in class at that time) said some things and it was while she was talking that I got to know that some of them have results issues.
“Immediately I left their class, I went to meet the HOD as regards that. The HOD told me that he had addressed them as regards that same issue this morning.
“And that he was on top of the matter. In fact he showed me some documents as regards that. And I also went to their class to tell them what the HOD said,” Ayodele said.
When asked if he was aware of such issues about the results before now, Ayodele said, “No. Not at all.” He added that he got to know about those issues in their class today.
