As part of activities marking this year’s World Radio Day, the Department of Mass Communication, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic staged a live radio broadcast on campus on Monday.
The radio broadcast of programmes which was initiated by a broadcast technologist at the department, Olufemi Orunsola, featured news commentary, talk show and guest interviews.
The Director of News and Current Affairs, Ogun State Brodcasting Corporation (OGBC), Funsho Lawanson was present at the event with Chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ogun State chapter, Wole Otayemi who presented a live sports update show at the event.
According to a statement titled “Radio is You” issued by the Head of the department, Kolawole Amoshas, he said the 2017 edition of the Day underscores the universal relevance of radio in today’s world.
Also, Orunsola during an interview with the Press Club MAPOLY said the department had come up with different programmes to celebrate the World Radio Day of previous years. .
“In the last couple of years, we have staged different levels of programmes that have allowed us to create awareness for the World Radio Day on a lower scale but this year I thought it is prudent to take it to the ambience of the campus so that it won’t be a Mass Communication Department or School of Communication affairs so that the entire campus can be aware that every 13th of February is World Radio Day.”
Orunshola also said the 2018 edition of the day will be broadcast live from the studios of MAPOLY FM.
He said the department has capable students that can serve as manpower to handle all operations of the proposed radio station, as they have displayed during the Outside Radio Broadcast.
Abiola Odugbesi, Ademola Ogunlana, popularly known as Hardvantage and some other students of the departments have been presenting programmes on broadcast stations in the state.
SWAN chairman, Otayemi said that radio is the tool of reaching down to the people and creates opportunity to allow citizens know what is going on in their immediate environment.
The Director of School of Communication and Information Technology (SCIT), Dr Goke Raufu assures that MAPOLY FM will be on air very soon.
