Management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta on Thursday, matriculated about 2,850 students into various full-time and part-time National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programmes.
The newly-admitted students for the 2016/17 academic session took their matriculation oath administered by the polytechnic librarian, Barrister Lanre Ojo.
Rector of the institution, Professor Oludele Itiola who welcomed the students on campus also urged them to shun all social vices prevalent in tertiary institutions. He said efforts and equipment are in place to instill academics and discipline in the students.
He also revealed that the institution has acquired licence for a campus-based radio, MAPOLY FM.
Itiola also said the institution is ready for transition into a varsity.
“You have enrolled into a tertiary institution at a time our dear country is in dire need of appropriate human capital to help her out of the global economic challenges.
“The first thing is to make sure that all facilities needed are procured and provided on a constant basis. We have to make sure the atmosphere is conducive for learning.
“And to ensure that the attitude of our staff is encouraging and we must make sure the students have conducive environment generally.
“If we do not have state of the art equipment in various courses like the engineering, then teaching and learning will not be what it should be. That’s one of the factors militating against having good drivers of the economy.
“We have secured the license for our radio. We are in the process of making sure we have befitting studios to operate such.
“I’m sure you are aware that the House of Assembly has approved the upgrading but upgrading is a process and I can assure you that the process is ongoing.
