The Director of Students’ Affairs, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Dr. Kolawole Amos on Monday said that the 2023 Dapo Abiodun football competition is the beginning of more social life and sporting activities in the institution.

The Director disclosed this to PRESS CLUB MAPOLY at the sports center on Monday.

He noted that social activities in the institution have gone down the drain for some time, but the institution is now ready to strike a balance between academics and social life, as they both work hand in glove.

“What prompted the competition is, when I assumed the office as Director of Students Affairs, I told our leaders, the management that I believe all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy and that sporting activities will even help in the intellectual development of our students, so we must combine both because sport aids intellectual development and so, that informed my decision to say this particular year because we have not had it for a very long time.

“The reason is not so far-fetched, because, each time they attempted it, it would be marred by violence, so I just decided, with God on our side and with commitment, we will have it, and thank God, we had it to the glory of God.

“By the grace of God, this is just the beginning. As long as I remain the Director of student affairs, I will ensure that the social life of our students is fully restored. It is not just about football, there are other games as well, There are other events, entertainments, and all the rest that we could venture into and I have a strong commitment to that and by the grace of God, more of this will come on board.

However, the director further stated that achieving success in the tournament didn’t come on a platter of gold, rather it came with challenges.

“During this tournament, I must tell you, it wasn’t easy, since yesterday, I didn’t have a good sleep because calls were coming in from different quarters, even from the management that they heard they were bringing in machinery, thugs, and of course, even before the finals, there were people who came in with certain things, but we thank God, those things were resolved.

“For us, security was the main challenge, You know in the past they’d say cult groups were using the opportunity of the tournament to cause troubles, we encountered some, but to the Glory of God.

“Even today, the final, you saw the uproar but we thank God that that is a past story now.”
