The Consultant to the Ogun State Governor on security, CP Edward Awolowo, urged the management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic to enforce security measures to suppress cultist activities on campus.
He disclosed this information to MAPOLYPress during an interview at the Safety Initiative program hosted by the Junior Chamber International (JCI) MAPOLY in collaboration with the Ogun State PCRC which took place at Babalakin Hall, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, on Thursday.
He urged the management of the institution to implement a monitoring system to curb cultist activities on campus, highlighting the challenge of tracking these groups due to their elusive nature.
CP Edward stressed the importance of parental vigilance in understanding their children’s associations and emphasized the role of schools in detecting cultism.
He asserted that identifying and dealing with such groups is a matter of public safety, and encouraged cooperation with law enforcement agencies for their removal.
However, CP Edward further stated the need for an increased focus on gathering intelligence, emphasizing the need for collaboration between the public and security agencies to effectively oversee and eliminate cultism from society.
His words: “Parents must monitor their children, their wedge, to know who are their friends, The school themselves has a role to play by putting in place a monitoring system to determine whether or not there is cultism on campus.
“Being a cultist means you are contesting with state power and If such a group is identified on campus, Cooperate with the law enforcement agent to come and remove them.
“The general public and the security agencies must also intensify the intelligence gathering mechanism to ensure that we monitor the activities of this cultism and stamp it out from our society.”
