The School of Environmental Studies of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta organized its 3rd International Conference.
The event was held at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel Hall in MAPOLY premises and focused on sustainable built environments and innovative development in the 21st century.
The conference was graced by notable figures including Dr. Adeoye Odedeji (Rector of MAPOLY), Dr. Mrs. Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda (Deputy Rector), Mrs. Olubunmi Elewodalu (Registrar), Mrs. Basurat Akintunde (Liberian), Mrs. Fatai Yekini (Bursar), Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle (Paramount ruler of Yewa Land), ARC. Baiyewu Olabisi Babatunde, ESV. Samson Agbato, Prof. Dr. Kola Akinsomi, and Prof. Bioye Tajudeen Aluko.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Odedeji highlighted the crucial role of the built environment in our lives and underscored the conference’s alignment with the ideals of public discourse and global best practices.
He emphasized that nearly 40% of global energy-related greenhouse gas emissions and nearly half of the world’s raw materials consumption are associated with the built environment, necessitating action to address these environmental challenges.
The rector also discussed the anticipated expansion of urban infrastructure in the coming decades, driven by the rapid growth of cities in emerging economies, changing family structures, and the aging population in developed economies.
ESV. Samson Agbato, the Director of the School of Environmental Studies, stressed the significance of industry experts offering practical insights and solutions to challenges facing the built environment.
ARC. Baiyewu Olabisi Babatunde, the chairman of the planning committee, reiterated the conference’s theme of future consciousness and the importance of preparing for a better future.
He emphasized that neglecting to consider the future repercussions of today’s actions on the built environment could lead to adverse consequences.
The 3rd International Conference of SENVS at MAPOLY brought together a diverse group of experts, academics, and industry leaders, providing a platform for meaningful discussions on sustainable development and the pivotal role of the built environment in shaping a more environmentally friendly and innovative 21st-century.
