Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Students’ Union elections will hold on Friday, March 10, 2017, Press Club MAPOLY has learnt.
It was also gathered that the voting exercise will be carried out electronically at the ICT building.
This was revealed by Press Club MAPOLY sources after a meeting between Directorate of Students’ Affairs, departmental staff advisers, presidents and secretaries at the Multi-purpose Hall on Wednesday.
The Acting Director of Students’ Affairs, Akin Ajayi confirmed at the meeting that the Interim Students’ Representative Council has been disbanded.
Information at Press Club MAPOLY disposal shows that ban on election campaign was been lifted. Press Club MAPOLY also learnt that nomination forms into the different Students’ Union offices and positions are on sale.
Campus Press reliably gathered that letters stating that elections into the Students’ Representatives Council will hold have been sent to all Heads of Departments.
Students’ Union Electoral Committee (SUELECO) on Tuesday, February 28th and jointly signed by Chairman, Oluwadoyinsola Olaibi and Secretary, Temitope Elegbede reads in part, “this is to inform all students’ Union members of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic that ban on election campaign has hereby been lifted on Tuesday 28th February 2017.
“Furthermore, all aspirants for Students Representatives Council (SRC) and Students’ Union Executives can obtain nomination forms.”
The electoral committee stated that those aspiring to be principal officers of the Students’ Union Executive including the President, Vice-president, General Secretary, Treasurer and Financial Secretary will get nomination forms at N2,500 while aspirants for other union executive positions will obtain their forms at N2,000.
While aspirants for the principal offices must meet the 3.00 CGPA, those aspiring to become other SU executive members are required to have 2.85 CGPA.
Press Club MAPOLY was informed that the nomination form for election into the SRC is N1,000. SUELECO also noted that the minimum academic requirement for SRC aspirants in 2.85 CGPA.
The electoral committee also noted that the minimum academic requirement for those intending to become principal officers of the House is 3.00 CGPA.
Another memo was issued on Wednesday, March 1 containing the election timetable.
According to the memo, manifesto for the SU aspirants will hold on Thursday, March 9 while the aspirants will be screened by the SUELECO and the Department of State Services (DSS) on Tuesday, March 7th and Wednesday, March 8th respectively.
The committee stated that election of principal officers of the SRC will hold on Monday, March 6th.
Press Club MAPOLY however could not confirm when the elections for intending SRC members will hold in various department.
