The Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe has disclosed that wearing indecent apparel is not a crime and that no one should be detained by law enforcement as a result of their wardrobe preferences.
Edafe made this known on his Twitter handle on Tuesday, October 3.
He made a crystal clear that security guards are not allowed to harass or make an attempt to arrest someone based on what they are wearing.
His words: “I have been receiving complaints that members of the public, particularly residents in Delta State, are being harassed by some vigilantes, anti-cult, hunters association, and some recalcitrant police officers,”
“I want to be very clear that violating the dress code, dressed inappropriately, boys sporting dreadlocks, donning earrings, girls wearing bum shorts, miniskirts, or leaving the house without a bra are not offenses.
“No police officer, vigilante, anti-cult, or anybody else can bother you because that circular was refuted by the state government.
“And if they continue to claim that it is an offense, you should urge that you want the situation to be taken to a police station. You can contact me when you get to the police station. It is not a crime, though, and I truly want you to know that.
“You cannot be detained by a police officer or vigilante because of your braless behavior, bum shorts, or dreadlocks, for example. It is not a crime.”
