President, Nigeria Association of Computer Science Students (NACOSS), Comrade Olamilekan Lawal has said his administration has saved its students from harassment with the issuance of departmental ID cards.
Lawal said undue harassment of students of the department from security officials on campus has reduce since they have identification cards pending the time the ID cards from the management.
While speaking to Press Club MAPOLY during the orientation ceremony, he said the orientation was meant to familiarise the students with the rules of the polytechnic.
The President also added that the students have been taught how to generate money while still on campus.
“We observed that stress that the students are going through before getting school ID Card is very hard. Harassment from security personnel all around them, and the best thing we could do is to make it affordable and it is N200 for each student. The turnout has been massive.
“The main reason of organising this orientation is just to let the students know what the department is all about what they should be expecting. To calculate their CGPA themselves and prepare well for exam and who and who to move with.
“Not to move with wrong set of people because their main primary purpose is to have good grades, good certificate, so this orientation will just project them what Computer Science and what life is all about.
“You moving with set of people will determine how your life go, we also have a friend from Lagos who has played video for them, on how to make money online. You don’t have to depend on your parents before you get some things. You can get some things done on your own.
“Those of you making use of your phone just to tweet and Facebook, you can also market something and make money from it and I think that will help students so far and I am very sure about that.
“We have a committee in place which we call The Moral Ethics Committee. They say charity begins at home, for us to prepare our students, we need to let them know the moral ethics of the school and department itself.
“The mode of dressing, what they should put on because the way you dress is the way you will be addressed. We have been campaigning on that and thank God for so far we have achieved,” Lawal said.
