HOD Cup: ND I Civil Engineering sends HND II packing

Civil Engineering ND I on Tuesday defeated their HND II counterparts on penalties in the opening game of the Civil Engineering HOD Cup at the Kola Sorinola Sports Complex

The match which ended 5-4 on penalties after no winner emerge in regulation time, recorded some eye-catching actions during both halves.

The HND II team who sported green jerseys, had the first shot on goal five minutes into the game. The attempt was denied by the ND one’s goalkeeper, Sodiq Ajayi, who was instrumental to his team’s victory.

Both sides had numerous chances but they failed to convert their chances in the first half.

The Second-half saw the continuation of both sides inability to convert chances into goals, as the goalkeepers brought their A-game to bare.

However, in the 72nd minute of the encounter, an HND II player was sent-off after he had brought down an ND I player at.

Reacting to his team’s victory after the game, the coach of the ND one side, Hassan Olayinka, expressed his delight over his side’s victory.

He added that prior to the match, his team were termed as underdogs, and he is so happy that his boys were able to prove critics wrong. He also added that his side have their eyes fixed on the title.

ND I team will meet winners of the second match between ND II and HND I in the finals on Thursday.
