The Amir of Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, MSSN, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY chapter, Muhammad Alonigbeja, has urged Muslim students on campus to lower their gaze and avoid looking at haraam things during the month of Ramadan.
In an interview with Press Club Mapoly, PCM, Amir Muhammad made this statement to prepare Muslim students for the Holy month.
According to him, as fasting commences on Monday, students, especially males, will be tempted and tested by women and other type of distractions.
However, he stressed that the only way to overcome these temptations is by “lowering the gaze and avoiding looking at haraam things.”
According to him, the gaze can generate bad thoughts in the heart, which then lead to bad ideas and then lead to desires, which will inevitably lead to doing haraam things.
He said, “Allaah says:, ‘Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (fromillegal sexual acts).
“That is purer forthem. Verily, Allaah is All-Aware of whatthey do. suurotun nūr.'”
In the same vein, he asked Muslim students, in general, to keep away from places of temptation.
“It is obvious that we are living in a society that is filled with temptation – media of all types, magazines, flirting in the marketplaces, satellite TV, the internet, etc… So you have to flee from all of these in order to keep your religious commitment sound,” he said.
He therefore urged them to “make the most of your time in worshipping and obeying Allaah.”
“Time is one of the great blessings that Allaah has bestowed upon His slaves, but there are many who are not making the most of it,” he added.
