COMPUTER ENGINEERING: ND2 whitewashes HND2 4-1 to lift HOD Cup

On Friday, saw the ND2 team crowned champion of the HOD Cup after handing their HND2 finalist a whitewash defeat at the Kunle Sorinola Sports Complex.

The match which ended 4-1 in favour of the ND2 saw an improved turn-out of spectators than this year’s competition had had since it begun.

ND2’s Kenny Ifehinola and Olopade Adeola, who both have 3goals and 2goals respectively before the match, continued their impressive form in front of goal. Adeola scored the lone goal in the first half and later grabbed his second brace in the tournament as well as his side’ s 3rd goal in the game on the 71st minute via an assist from his strike-partner Ifehinola, who doubled his side’s lead on the 62nd minute.

Both players ended the tournament as the highest goal scorers tied on 4goals.

However, midfielder Godwin Oniyeanuna, grabbed ND2’s last goal in the game on the 72nd minutes with a sublime chip from a counter-attack that saw him collide with the onrushing HND2’s goalie while the ball rolled on to the back of the net.

HND2, however, scored a consolation goal on the 86th minutes through their talisman Omololu Sobayo after the ND2 team was reduced to nine men following the dismissal of two of their players both on the 81st and 83rd minutes respectively.

Chief Coach of the ND2 team, Sheriff Olawoyin, expressed his delight over his team’s triumph and ascribed his team’s success to his player’s adherence to his instructions
Meanwhile, speaking to MapolyCampusPress after the match, Sports Director of the Computer Engineering Department, Banjo Abiola, rated the competition average, cited that the competition lacked the required finance and equipment that should have made it glamorous. He however hoped of an improvement come the next edition.
