To mark its 60th anniversary and at the same time combat climate change, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has partnered with Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) to launch a green garden campaign aimed at promoting sustainable environmental practices.

According to a statement by the Institution’s Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola, the campaign, which was inaugurated during a visit to MAPOLY by NIPR dignitaries, led by Mr. Waheed Ogunjobi, Vice-Chairman of the Ogun State Chapter and Chairman of the anniversary committee aims to plant sixty trees in the institution.

During the visit, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji, Rector of MAPOLY, expressed gratitude for selecting the polytechnic as the launch site for the green campaign.

Dr. Odedeji emphasized MAPOLY’s commitment to environmental stewardship and highlighted the importance of addressing climate change through practical measures like horticulture.

Odedeji therefore said, “as a prestigious institute, your initiative is both timely and essential. We have earmarked a section of our campus for the symbolic planting of sixty trees,” Dr. Odedeji remarked.

He further announced that sixty trees will be planted symbolically to mark NIPR’s diamond jubilee.

Prince Femi Dokunmu, representing NIPR, underscored the significance of partnering with MAPOLY, given its role in training public relations professionals. He explained that NIPR aims to support the government’s climate change agenda through this green campaign.

The official ceremony, scheduled for June 1, 2024, will be attended by esteemed guests including the first Registrar of NIPR, Mr. Adekunle Salu, and Dr. Adetokunbo Fassy Yusuf, Ogun State Head of Service, among others.

To raise awareness about climate change and sustainability, an awareness rally will precede the ceremony, starting from the NIPR secretariat and culminating at the newly established MAPOLY Green Garden.
