The National Institute Of Public Relations (NIPR) Ogun State chapter, has lunched its Diamond Green Park and planted sixty economic trees in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic(MAPOLY) to celebrates its sixty anniversary.
The event held at the polytechnic premises in Ojere, Abeokuta Ogun State on June 1st,2024.
The institute earlier promised to plant this economic trees to mark their Diamond anniversary in the institution and to support the sustainability of the economy and the eco-system in the society during their courtesy visit to the management in the previous week.
Giving his opening speech, the federal ministry of environment represented by Zacharia Buna Yaduma expressed his joy to celebrate the institute for their efforts in promoting and uniting Public Relations across the country.
Buna also commended them for their remarkable progress facing many challenges, appreciating the institute for the their action in embracing the practice that promoted environment stewardship to reduce footprint and Invest in healthy ecosystem.
Speaking with a member of the NIPR, Lekan Togunwa, the former chairman of the Institute in Ogun state and Head of Department, Mass communication MAPOLY, he expressed his commendation for the institute and MAPOLY for the collaboration for the sustainability of the eco system and greener Nigeria.
Togunwa explained that the institute and MAPOLY as a Program in place to ensure the survival of the tresses in other to serve it purpose.
Emphasizing on the importance of the tress to the institution and the society, the he HOD explains that the tress planted will help in preventing the infrastructure in the school from damages from the winds and help in controlling the winds and storms in the environment .
He further explains economically that the trees will provide flanks for production of furniture material in the society and also assist the student in their learning process by providing shield for them to study and mediate after lecture.
Mr Yemi Ajibola, the School Public Relations Officer, also appreciate the effort of the institute in choosing the MAPOLY as the venue to champion the campaign among other institution in the state
“The project is a loadable one, and rightly situated because our institution has trained majority of the professional we in Public Relations in Nigeria today, we are the number one higher institution in Ogun state,and the flagship of mass communication trainers in the state, for NIPR to have considered citing the planting of the 60 trees to mark the anniversary in MAPOLY is the right decision they have taken.”
Explaining the importance of the tresses, he explains that initially the Institution encounter damages from whenever rain falls which bring about planting of trees planted in school environment and this trees planted will also improve the sustainability of the environment not only to the building but to student too.
Among the notable individual available in were the federal ministers of state, federal ministry of environment represented by Zacharia Buna Yaduma director general/Chief executive officer forestry research institute in Nigeria, The Head of civil servants and head of service Dr Kehinde Onasanya, Permanent Secretary ministry of information and strategy Alhaji Waheed Adeshina, the vice Chairman of the institute Mr Waheed Ogunjobi, Deputy Rector Dr Yetunde Lanre Iyanda, the registrar of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Mrs Bunmi Ilewodalu, former chairman of the institute Ogun state chapter Akin Ogundero, The Head of department Mass communication and former chairman of the institute, Lekan Togunwa, The head of lecturer mass communication Dr. Shina Aina and others.
