The Wolves Among Us

Taiwo Adeyemo

Everyone claims to be holy, but few are saints.
We claim to be pure, but our actions betray our words,
We all look the same, but different in shapes and actions,
How can we trust the words of men to be of God?
Is there truly a man of God?

In the dirge of life, we hustle in lies and tales,
While truth is mocked and lives like a fool.
Lies bring joy to men, but at what cost?
In this world of wolves in sheep’s clothing,
We believe in word of mouth, changing the ideology of fellow men,
And fooling the blood of the young.

How long will this last?
The world moves not on the rally of jokes,
But on lines of lies, fooling the wasted time
Hanging on the boots of the mighty ones,
Seeing lies perpetuated till eternity.

But I smile in my gentle soul,
Awaiting the end of this game we’ve played.
Our hustle is revealed not just in words,
But in actions, in the light of day and night.
