Following failure of the state government to respond and address all demands made by the National Association of Nigerian Students, (NANS), Ogun State Axis, the Union has disclosed her plan to embark on a massive protest on Tuesday, 3rd October, 2017 over the poor state of education in the state.
In a statement jointly signed by the NANS Chairman, Comrade Balogun Olawale and her General Secretary, Comrade Amuwa Mayowa said the massive protest was as a result of the state government failure to respond to the demands made by the Union in her last communiqué within the given hours of ultimatum.
It could be recalled that the Students Body has given the government a 72hours Ultimatum to find lasting solution to issues in the education system such as MAPOLY to MAUSTECH, Model schools, refusal of government to fund West Africa Examination Council, lack of infrastructure and high cost of acceptance fee in tertiary institutions, among others.
According to the statement, it is no more news that the leadership of NANS JCC Ogun State Axis bemoaned the unsuitable and ineffective educational system in Ogun State, which resulted into multifarious consultations and deliberations on how the state Government can respond swiftly to those shortcomings.
“Recently, NANS Ogun State Axis held a Senate meeting on the 25th September 2017, which comprised the SUG Presidents of our tertiary institutions in Ogun State in order to call upon the state Government to find a long lasting solutions to all resolutions derived at the Senate meeting.
“Apparently, the leadership of NANS JCC Ogun State Axis gave the state Government 72 hours Ultimatum which began 2pm Tuesday 26th September, 2017 and lapsed 2pm Friday 29th September, 2017.
“However, with the failure of the state Government to respond and address all our demands concluded at the Senate meeting within the given hours of ultimatum, we hereby media phone to all Nigerian Students the necessity of participating in the forthcoming united campaign tagged "RESCUE OGUN STATE EDUCATION CAMPAIGN (ROSEC) 2017".
“We therefore call upon all legitimate and bonafide Students schooling on the soil of Gateway State to join this peaceful demonstration on Tuesday 3rd October, 2017”, the statement read.
