The Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Dr. Babatunde Jolaoso, has responded to allegations of widespread extortion by project supervisors in the institution, demanding concrete evidence and a list of offenders to facilitate necessary action.
This comes after a recent editorial by the Press Club MAPOLY, PCM exposing a disturbing trend of supervisors allegedly forcing students to pay exorbitant fee for project printing and “appreciation” after completion.
The editorial highlighted the financial burden this practice places on struggling students, many of whom can barely afford three square meals a day.
In a meeting with the Press Club, Dr Jolaoso expressed disappointment and concern over the allegations, promising to take disciplinary action against any lecturer found guilty of extortion.
In his reaction, he stated that while the institution takes such allegations seriously, appropriate measures can only be taken if credible evidence is presented.
In this vein, he urged the PCM and affected students to provide specific details, including names of lecturers involved, to enable the school management to investigate and implement disciplinary action where necessary.
PCM thereby encouraged students who have fallen victim to extortion to come forward with verifiable evidence.
