….. The frustration is in your minds, pay SUG fee, canvass, vote, DSA tells student politicians

The Director of Students Affairs, DSA, Mr. David Aninkan, Director of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY has debunked having favorite candidates for the coming Students Union Government Election.
Mr Aninkan, while speaking in an exclusive interview with The Press Club MAPOLY, lamented the rise of political apathy among students, stressing that the process becomes clear “only when you’re involved”.
Speaking with conviction, the DSA clarified that, to him, the student union is not just another campus body but the beating heart of student representation.
“The union belongs to the students, not to management, not to me, not to anybody else,” he said, adding that “It must serve your collective interest, not personal ambition.”
He however lamented that students don’t come out to vote, know their leaders or engage in politics, stressing that politics on campus was not like before.
“Most students don’t even come out to vote,” he said. “They think it doesn’t concern them. But it does. If all students participated, no one could rig an election on campus,” stressing that the key to the voting website is not with him or sitting SUG president.
He further said, “for anybody to think I have an anointed candidate would be too naive. How would I willingly drag the in the mud, the name I have been able to built for three decades?”
In this vein, he urged students to do away with any misconceptions and come out to vote when it’s time.
“Tell them to pay SUG fees so they can be eligible to vote and submit their candidates,” the DSA urged.
He warned that political apathy in school often carries over into society. “What you practice here is what you take outside. If you don’t vote here, you won’t vote out there. And if you don’t participate, you lose the right to complain about leadership.”
