Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, MAPOLY celebrates the lasting impact of its second Rector, Oba Dr. Adebisi Atanda Adebayo, whose visionary leadership between May 1st, 1984 and April 30th, 1992 continues to shape the institution’s academic and structural identity.
A scientist, author, and respected academic, Dr. Adebayo first joined the Polytechnic as a Senior Principal Lecturer and later became Head of the Department of Biology before assuming the role of Rector. During his administration, MAPOLY recorded significant milestones in both academic accreditation and physical development.
Under his leadership, the Polytechnic secured National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) accreditation for key programs, including:
- ND and HND in Mass Communication
- ND and HND in Business Administration and Management
- ND and HND in Marketing, Architectural Technology, and Town & Regional Planning
- ND Secretarial Administration
- ND Food Technology
- ND Science Laboratory Technology
These accreditations elevated MAPOLY’s reputation as a hub for technical and professional education, drawing students from across Nigeria.
Dr. Adebayo also championed infrastructural growth, ushering in the era of MAPOLY’s signature red-brick architecture. The iconic Adebisi Adebayo Administrative Building remains a tribute to his commitment to the Polytechnic’s development.
Beyond his administrative role, he was a prolific scholar with numerous contributions to local and international publications, journals, and conferences. Until his passing at the age of 87, he served as the Olu of Orile Itori-Odo, exemplifying a lifetime of service in both academia and traditional leadership.
As MAPOLY honours his memory, the institution remains inspired by the foundation he laid, one built on excellence, vision, and service.
