MAPOLY SUG, SRC Issue 3-Week Ultimatum Over Delayed Results, Threaten Peaceful Protest

The leadership of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) alongside the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) has issued a three-week ultimatum to the institution’s management to release two long-pending examination results, warning that continued silence from the school is pushing students to the brink.

The ultimatum, jointly delivered by the SUG President, Comrade Temitope Afolabi, and the SRC Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ademolu Toheeb, follows growing anxiety among students who have resumed a new academic session without receiving previous academic results.

Speaking on the development, the SRC Speaker said the delay had created academic uncertainty and frustration among students, stressing that the parliament could not remain passive while those who elected them continued to face setbacks.

“Students entrusted us with this mandate, and it is our duty to defend their interests at all times,” Toheeb said, describing the ultimatum as a unified demand that reflects the collective frustration of the student body” he said

He lamented that the prolonged delay has forced many students to “write examinations blindly,” without knowing their academic performance or areas needing improvement an issue he said has led to avoidable setbacks and dwindling morale.

The SRC expected the management to release all pending results before the expiration of the three-week deadline, a move Toheeb believed will restore confidence in the academic system and reaffirm the school’s commitment to transparency.

Although he noted that the issue predates the current rector, Toheeb praised the administration for previously improving result-release timelines before the recent breakdown.

He added that he had met with the rector last Friday to formally communicate concerns raised during the SRC’s first open sitting, including delayed results, poor lecture conditions, and infrastructural challenges. A full report, he said, is also being compiled for submission to relevant offices.

To support students during the impasse, the SRC has put internal structures in place, such as academic advisory, counseling services, and consistent updates through class representatives, faculty officers, parliamentarians, and the SUG executive.

However, the Speaker warned that if management fails to act after three weeks, the parliament will relocate its sittings from the union chamber to the school gate as a peaceful demonstration.

“We believe in the leadership of our rector; he has always been a father figure to us,” Toheeb said. “I am confident management will act long before we apply the final ‘C’ of Al1uta Confrontation.”

Meanwhile, SUG President Comrade Temitope Afolabi said the Union would embark on strategic engagements with principal officers, department heads, and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASSUP) to identify the root causes of the delay.

He emphasized that unified communication with faculty representatives would be prioritized to increase pressure for timely action.

“We expect management to fast-track the marking, vetting, and uploading of all outstanding results,” Afolabi said.

“Students also deserve a transparent and realistic timeline for each pending result. Beyond immediate solutions, recurring bottlenecks from staffing shortages to system failures must be permanently addressed.” He added

Afolabi assured students that no final-year student would be denied clearance, SIWES processing, project defense, or NYSC mobilization due to administrative delays. Where necessary,

He added that the Union will request temporary waivers or extensions to safeguard students’ academic progression.

“Our priority is to eliminate student anxiety and prevent any disruption to their academic journey,” he said.
