Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, has commissioned three major Special Students’ Entrepreneurship Practical Projects (SPEPs) developed by the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (MAPCED).
The newly unveiled projects include a 5KVA Solar Power System, a Multi-Point Wi-Fi Network, and a Concrete Block-Making Factory were executed during the last academic session by students working under MAPCED’s supervision, with support from industry professionals.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Emeritus Prof. Kamaldeen Balogun, commended the initiative and reaffirmed that Nigerian Polytechnics have the potential to drive the nation’s entrepreneurship revolution when adequately supported by government and relevant stakeholders.
Prof. Balogun expressed satisfaction with MAPOLY’s commitment to promoting “skills, not just degrees,” in line with the National Board for Technical Education’s (NBTE) vision for polytechnic education.
He pledged continued support from the Governing Council to enhance the Centre’s production capacity and broaden its impact.
He added that the institution aims to produce high-quality concrete blocks capable of competing with leading products in Ogun State’s construction market, while also setting new standards for local manufacturers.
Guests at the event were shown a documentary highlighting the hands-on technical training the students received from industry experts, many of whom are MAPOLY alumni.
In his remarks, the Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnics , Arc. Dr. Koye Jolaoso, echoed the Chairman’s position and emphasized that the quality and scope of the Centre’s projects would be further expanded through collaboration with other academic departments, including the School of Mechanical Engineering, which is currently fabricating block-making machines.
Director of the Centre, Arc. Dr. Olabisi Baiyewu, in his welcome address, thanked the Governing Council and Management for their continued support. He noted that MAPCED is committed to repositioning the Polytechnic as a national benchmark for practical entrepreneurship education and a strong contributor to the institution’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
He explained that the commissioned projects were executed by students from different schools within the Polytechnic: the School of Engineering handled the solar installation; the School of Environmental Sciences led the block-making project; while the School of Computer Science and Computer Engineering implemented the Wi-Fi system.
Among the dignitaries present were Dr. Rabiu Adeneye Kusimo, who participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony, alongside Council Members — Comr. Philip Ogunsipe, Dr. Tomisi Adegunle, and Dr. (Mrs.) Bola Olorode.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Rector, Dr. (Mrs.) Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda; Acting Registrar, Mr. Olayinka Oladipo; Polytechnic Librarian, Alhaja Basirat Akintunde; Bursar, Mrs. Folasade Madariola, FCA, as well as Directors of Schools, Heads of Departments, and other senior administrative staff.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone in MAPOLY’s ongoing efforts to strengthen practical learning and equip students with industry-ready entrepreneurial skills.
