The Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Arc. Dr. Babatunde Adekoyejo Jolaoso, has inaugurated the institution’s first-ever Security Trust Fund Committee alongside a Sports Festival Planning Committee, in a move aimed at strengthening campus security and promoting staff welfare.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the Polytechnic’s Big Administration Block, marked a strategic shift towards internally driven security funding and structured staff wellness initiatives.
Speaking at the event, the Rector described the establishment of the Security Trust Fund as a timely and strategic response to prevailing security challenges across the country. He stressed that the initiative was not a misplaced priority but a proactive measure to safeguard lives and property within the institution.
“This is about the safety and security of lives and property. God is first, but we must also take deliberate actions,” he said, noting that the trust fund would be anchored on collective responsibility, transparency, accountability and inclusive participation.
Arc. Dr. Jolaoso explained that the Security Trust Fund Committee has been mandated to design and implement a robust fundraising framework, including stakeholder engagement, media and publicity strategies, proper documentation of contributions and transparent deployment of funds.
He added that the committee is expected to complete its assignment within four weeks, with the official launch of the trust fund projected for the first quarter of 2026.
The Security Trust Fund Committee is chaired by Dr. Samson Agbato, with Mrs. Remi Adeyemi serving as secretary an appointment described as a first in the institution’s committee structure. Other members include Mr. Philip Adebanjo, Dr. Wasiu Tejuoso, Olujide Adeyinka Adenekan, Mr. Felix Friday Fayose, the Polytechnic’s Chief Security Officer, Bola Olorode, Adebayo, Kolawole Sopaade, Comrade Temitope Afolabi, Comrade Ekundayo Gbenga, General Secretary, and Mr. Yemi Ajibola.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Agbato described security as a national challenge requiring structured and lawful interventions. He emphasized the need for a strong legal framework, integrity-driven leadership and proper assessment of the institution’s security needs.
“Security Trust Funds come with legal and moral responsibilities. We must define a clear vision and mission, engage credible personalities and ensure transparency,” he said,
He added that fundraising would involve partnerships, grants, sponsorships and contributions from staff, students, alumni and other stakeholders.
He assured that the committee would prioritise accountability and effective utilisation of resources to enhance surveillance, equipment acquisition and overall campus security.
Also inaugurated was the Sports Festival Planning Committee, conceived as an annual initiative to institutionalise sporting activities and promote unity, physical and mental wellbeing, and productivity among staff.
The Sports Festival Planning Committee is chaired by Dr. Aliu Ajani Odumbaku, with Adebanjo Kamarudeen as secretary. Members include Mr. Leke Adebayo, Chairman of ASUP, Olajide Adegbola of the Sports Directorate, Banjo Ogunsipe, Engr. Monsur Popoola, Mr. Tunde Abiodun, Chairman of SSANIP, as well as representatives of NASU, the Health Centre, the Maintenance Unit and the Security Department.
According to the Rector, the committee will serve as the central coordinating body for planning, funding, managing and executing the annual sports festival, and is required to submit a comprehensive report within two weeks after each festival.
He added that the committee’s tenure would span one festival cycle.
In his remarks, Dr. Odumbaku assured the Polytechnic’s management and council of the committee’s commitment to excellence and timely delivery, noting that the initiative would strengthen staff wellness culture and institutional cohesion.
Giving the closing remarks, the Acting Registrar, Mr. Funsho Kushimo, commended members of both committees and expressed confidence in their competence and integrity.
He urged them to deliver on their mandates, as the Rector formally inaugurated the committees and reaffirmed management’s support for initiatives that position MAPOLY as a forward-looking institution committed to safety, welfare and collective responsibility.
