The Senior Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Public Communication, Otunba Dare Odufowokan, has reaffirmed his commitment to the growth and sustainability of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Press Club, pledging continued support for its activities and programmes.
Odufowokan, a former president of the MAPOLY Press Club, made this known on Thursday during a courtesy visit by members of the Press Club executive at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The visit was aimed at strengthening mentorship and fostering engagement between the current leadership and past leaders of the club.
He charged the executives to build on the legacy of the Press Club by prioritising members’ development and preserving its long-standing traditions.
The governor’s aide particularly stressed the need to sustain the club’s official publication, Fact Magazine, warning against any attempt to change its name.
According to him, Fact Magazine has gained wide recognition within the institution and beyond, adding that its identity reflects the club’s rich journalistic heritage.
Tracing the origins of the publication, Odufowokan revealed that the paramount ruler of Ota, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Professor) Adeyemi Abdulkabir Obalanlege, an alumnus of the institution’s Accountancy Department, was the pioneer president of the Press Club and the founder of Fact Magazine.
He further urged the executives to sustain the club’s annual media tour programme, describing it as a vital initiative that exposes members to professional journalism and media practice. In support of this, Odufowokan pledged to sponsor the Press Club’s 2026 media tour.
The SSA also encouraged the leadership to uphold the tradition of celebrating the club’s annual anniversary, assuring members of his readiness to support the club’s activities whenever the need arises.
Reflecting on the institution’s history, Odufowokan noted that the renaming of MAPOLY from Ogun Polytechnic was achieved through students’ advocacy rather than by government directive.
The visit, he said, highlights the importance of alumni engagement in sustaining the standards, values, and growth of campus journalism at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic.
