Newly admitted students of Higher National Diploma in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic have expressed their dissatisfaction and grievances over delay in the release of their statements of results.
The students who spoke with Press Club on Wednesday claimed that the delay has impeded them from paying their school fees.
It would be recalled that the school management has announced March 26 as the new deadline for payment of school fees.
The students who risk paying penalty fees of N10, 000 each said that the new deadline was unnecessary and it is a show of inhumanness on the part of the management.
An HND1 student of Mass Communication, Abduqudus Ogundapo in his opinion article ‘Mapaites are aggrieved’ written to Press Club said that even though he did his ND Programme in MAPOLY, he is not sure of his studentship in HND.
His article reads in part, “according to my survey, many of my colleagues in all departments, including myself, have not been able to pay the school fees. It adds to our problems when an individual who does not even have the actual amount start struggling for penalty fees.
“Of course, we never expect education to be free, but we are pleading for the extension of our school fees deadline. We are sad as the deadline draws nearer.”
Another Mass Communication student who pleaded anonymity wrote to Press Club, urging the management to not just extend the deadline but ensure that their statements of results are ready.
He said, “To me, there is no need to thank anyone for the extension of the payment deadline from 12th of March to 26th. As far as the institution has failed to make available, statements of results for the students admitted into HND programmes, there cannot be a deadline.
“What do you expect the students to make registrations with? Some of them have their tuition fee smiling in their bank accounts but they can’t pay because they don’t have a result with which they will do their clearance; and if you don’t do clearance, your portal for payment can’t be opened. It’s really painful to have your money and can’t get what you want.
“It will be inhumanity for the school to stand by the deadline if it fails to clear all pending issues and besides, someone who is unable to pay the initial #51,000 how do you expect such person to pay an additional #10,000 or #15,000 penalty fee?
The President, Association of Marketing Students, Akindipe Babatunde however assured that all departmental Presidents of the school would deliberate on the matter and come to a common ground with the management.
“We wish that they extend it, but not for HND 1 students only but all other students, even those on SIWES who are yet to resume. All departmental presidents will come together and have a meeting on this issue.” He said.
