Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, has taken a significant step toward strengthening its skill acquisition programmes through a strategic partnership with the Ogun State Skills Qualification Board.
The collaboration is designed to position MAPOLY students for structured, competency-based assessment and certification in line with national standards under the National Skills Qualification (NSQ) framework, overseen by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
Speaking at an engagement held at the Polytechnic on Monday, the Rector, Arc. Dr. Babatunde Adekoyejo Jolaoso, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to integrating formal assessment and certification processes into its existing skill training structure.
Dr. Jolaoso disclosed that MAPOLY has already established an NBTE-accredited centre to coordinate skills development initiatives. He explained that the centre is dedicated to delivering competency-based training, testing and assessment in full compliance with national requirements.
According to him, the Polytechnic is also expanding its skill development programmes, particularly in hospitality and medical-related fields, to ensure that its academic offerings align with evolving labour market demands.
Representing the Ogun State Skills Qualification Board, Director Mrs. Oluwabusola Lawal stated that the new framework empowers polytechnics in the state to conduct training internally, while the Board supervises assessment and certification processes.
She noted that this structure enhances the credibility of qualifications, making them more relevant for employment and career advancement.
Lawal further explained that under the new arrangement, assessments would be conducted simultaneously with training, enabling students to demonstrate practical mastery of skills rather than relying.
