The Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Arc. Dr. Babatunde Adekoyejo Jolaoso, has pledged to allocate a sizeable parcel of land to the KEGITE Club, Ilya Olumo, to construct a world-class cultural centre within the institution.
The assurance was given during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the KEGITE Club to the Polytechnic’s management.
Speaking during the visit, the Rector commended the club for its commitment to cultural preservation and campus development.
He promised that the institution would provide a piece of land large enough to accommodate the proposed structure, provided the club meets agreed conditions.
According to him, the land would be officially handed over if the KEGITE Club can complete the construction of the building within a 12-month timeframe.
He added that the project could be used to mark the second anniversary of the current management.
The Rector noted that the proposed KEGITE Cultural Centre would not only promote culture but also serve as a practical training facility for several departments, including the Art and Design, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Mass Communication, and Architecture departments.
Also, Chief Kunle Oguntoyinbo Ogunmefun, a leading figure of the club, reiterated the club’s vision to construct a world class cultural centre an initiative he described as unprecedented in other tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Tracing the chapter’s history back to 1985, when the chiefs of the KEGITE and the Ilya Olumo were formally established, Chief Ogunmefun emphasized the club’s longstanding contributions to cultural promotion within and beyond the campus.
He described the KEGITE Club as a socio-cultural organization dedicated to promoting the cultural heritage of the people.
He stressed that unity and oneness remain the core values of the club, noting that members are committed to supporting one another and fostering a strong sense of brotherhood.
The courtesy visit further strengthened the relationship between the institution’s management and the KEGITE Club, with both parties expressing optimism about the successful realization of the proposed cultural centre project.
