A disagreement has emerged between the management and Students’ Union of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), over the enforcement of penalty fees, with the union urging students to halt payments amid ongoing discussions.The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola defended the continued enforcement of registration deadlines and associated penalties, describing them as necessary measures to promote discipline and ensure the smooth operation of the academic system.According to the PRO, academic institutions are designed not only to deliver knowledge but also to instill discipline and character, adding that adherence to rules is essential for institutional growth and efficiency.He stated that the penalties were not new charges but consequences for failure to meet established deadlines despite repeated notices. He further emphasized that the policy is part of broader reforms aimed at repositioning the institution and improving its standards.However, the Students’ Union Executive has opposed the move, particularly the ₦5,000 fine imposed on ND1 and HND1 students for alleged late file submission.In a press statement dated March 16, 2026, the union said it had engaged the school management to seek clarification and resolve the issue in the interest of students.The union, Afolabi Temitope, directed affected students not to pay the fine pending the outcome of ongoing negotiations.It assured students that their welfare and financial protection remain a priority, while urging them to remain calm and law-abiding as efforts continue to reach a fair resolution.
