The Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Arc. Dr. Babatunde Adekoyejo Jolaoso, has charged newly admitted students of the institution to embrace discipline, integrity, and academic excellence as they begin their academic journey.Speaking at the matriculation and oath-taking ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session held at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) Auditorium on Wednesday, the Rector described the occasion as a significant milestone in the lives of the students.Dr. Jolaoso emphasized that matriculation goes beyond a mere ceremony, noting that it represents a formal commitment by students to abide by the institution’s rules and uphold the values of knowledge, character, and responsible citizenship.“You are not here merely to obtain certificates,” he said. “You have been given an opportunity to develop competence, creativity, innovation, and integrity that will define your future and contributions to society.”He reaffirmed the Polytechnic’s commitment to producing graduates who are academically sound, entrepreneurial, and technologically driven. He urged students to take their studies seriously by attending lectures regularly and actively participating in practical and laboratory work.The Rector also warned against social vices such as cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse, and cybercrime, stressing that the institution maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct.“Any student found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary action,” he cautioned.Encouraging open communication, Dr. Jolaoso advised students to channel challenges through appropriate institutional structures, including course advisers, heads of departments, and the Students’ Affairs Directorate.A highlight of the event was the introduction of the Maiden Matriculation Lecture, to be delivered by a distinguished alumnus. According to the Rector, the initiative aims to connect new students with the institution’s legacy and inspire them through real-life success stories.“This initiative creates a bridge between the past, present, and future of the Polytechnic,” he noted, adding that alumni serve as practical examples of what dedication and discipline can achieve.Dr. Jolaoso also appreciated parents and guardians for their support and sacrifices, assuring them that the institution would provide a conducive environment for both academic and moral development.He urged students to cultivate values such as respect, responsibility, tolerance, and collaboration, which he described as essential for leadership in a rapidly changing world.Concluding his address, the Rector encouraged the students to dream big and remain committed to their goals.“I have no doubt that you will add to the proud legacy of this institution,” he said.
